Top Tips for designing Dynamic Dashboards

A GOOD DASHBOARD SHOULD BE:

  • Simple: your dashboard must be highly intuitive – users shouldn't need formal training to get the hang of it

  • End-user led: business users themselves, rather than IT specialists, should be able to create or update data visualisations

  • Personalised: users should be able to display information and customise the dashboard layout to meet their own information requirements

  • Interactive: integrated analysis and reporting helps to ensure users can drill down through the dashboard to detailed contextual information that explains trends and issues

  • Available anytime, anywhere: ideally, users should be able to access the dashboard where and when it suits them - via the web or company portal, on their mobile, through email, or within tools such as Microsoft PowerPoint or Adobe Acrobat

  • Complete: dashboards should provide access to any data source, SAP or non-SAP, OLAP or SQL, to provide a complete 360 degree view

  • Action-oriented: track metrics and provide alerts so that when thresholds are reached, key stakeholders are automatically notified and can take swift action
